Grain & Weave is a family owned business, founded in 2016. Since then we have gone on to visit over 4000 families and over 170 suburbs across Sydney, Greater Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle and Wollongong.
Our team is made up of seasoned professionals, each dedicated to delivering a great experience for your family, as well as beautiful photography and handmade products, worthy of your most important memories.

In 2024 over 33% of our customer base were returning clients, with 18% being word-of-mouth client referrals.
Our team has grown to keep up with customer demand and each year we have continued to grow, even through the pandemic.

Murdina is usually the first person you will speak to when contacting Grain & Weave. She has decades of professional experience in customer service and professional administration, with buckets of enthusiasm for excellent customer experiences.

John | Founder & Managing Director
John has an ability to connect with people and put them at ease within moments, which allows him to create beautiful and natural portraits that have personality. A trained studio and portrait photographer with many years of professional experience, John’s images take pride of place on literally thousands of walls in homes in Australia and around the world.
A father of two kids himself, John started Grain & Weave in 2016 to create a family photography service that made high-quality family photography accessible to all.
He quickly built up a customer base that spread the word and since then, John founded the company and build a hand-picked team who he oversees day to day. John still shoots around Sydney in between looking after his team and his roster of thousands of clients.
Alex | Photographer
Alex covers our Sydney and greater Sydney region and is one of the most passionate photographers in the business!
She has been working as a professional portrait photographer for over 20 years around the world and joined our in-home photography team in 2023.
Ellen | Photographer
Ellen also covers our Sydney and greater Sydney region and is a master of natural/lifestyle photography. Having worked around the world and as a senior photographer in various studios, Ellen is one of our most popular photographers.
Victoria | Retouch
Victoria is our senior retoucher and keeps the machine moving behind-the-scenes. With a great eye for detail Victoria knows how to bring out the best in your family portraits and keep them natural looking without overdoing them.
Sam | Retouch
Sam works alongside Victoria in the retouch department. Sam is a talented artist and alongside working with Grain & Weave, she sells her own commissioned artwork.
