Why We Don’t Sell RAW Images (And Why You Don’t Actually Want Them!)
It’s a question we get asked more and more, and we completely understand why. People assume that a RAW file is just a higher-quality version of their photos—something that will give them more control, flexibility, or better resolution.
But here’s the truth: RAW files aren’t what you think they are. They’re not polished, not ready to print, and not even viewable on most devices without professional software. More importantly, they don’t represent the final vision of our work.
When you book a session with us, you’re not just hiring someone to press a button. You’re commissioning an team to create a collection of images that tell a story—one that is carefully crafted from start to finish.
The final images are part of a collaborative process between our whole team, not just a snap taken on the day.
Let’s break it down.
What Are RAW Files? (And Why They Aren’t What You Expect)
A RAW file is an unfinished digital negative—not a final, high-quality image. It lacks contrast, colour correction, and any of the artistic adjustments that make an image shine. It requires specific software, with the correct profiles to decode the file properly, and professional processing, refinement, and expertise to transform it into the images you see in our portfolio.
Think of it like this:
🎵 The music production analogy – When you buy a song on Spotify or Apple Music, you get the polished, final version—not the raw audio recordings from the studio. Those original files are unfinished, unmixed, and not meant to be shared. The producer, engineer, and artist refine them into something complete.
Another way of thinking about it is like the chef who has made the mixture for the cake; they’re only half done and wouldn’t sell you the mixture!

Why We Don’t Sell RAW Files (And Why Most Professionals Don’t Either)
1. The Work Happens Before & Beyond the Click of a Button
Photography isn’t just about taking a technically correct image—it’s about:
✔ Lighting and composition—ensuring everything is in place before we press the shutter.
✔ Directing people who aren’t models—helping families feel natural, connected, and comfortable in front of the camera.
✔ Curating a final set of images that flow as a story—not just individual snaps.
The RAW file is just a record of that process—the real artistry happens before and after the shot is taken.
2. Editing Is Part of Our Signature Style
When you book with us, you’re not just paying for time spent at your session. You’re investing in our years of expertise, artistic vision, and final presentation.
✔ We don’t "fix" images in editing—we shoot with purpose, ensuring every image is well-lit, well-composed, and carefully crafted.
✔ Our editing is a continuation of our artistic process, refining and enhancing what we’ve already created.
✔ RAW images don’t represent our work—they lack the style, depth, and finishing touches that define our photography.
3. RAW Files Can’t Be Used as They Are
Even if you had RAW files, what would you do with them?
They can’t be printed or shared without being converted first.
They require specialist software and professional skills to edit properly.
Without adjustments, they look flat, dull, and nothing like the final images we deliver.
We don’t provide RAWs because they aren’t useful to clients—and they don’t reflect the quality of our work.
4. Protecting the Integrity of Our Work & Reputation
Some clients think having the RAW files means they can edit them themselves or apply filters—but that would be like asking a fashion designer for unstitched fabric so you can "finish" the dress yourself.
When we deliver a final gallery, it represents our expertise, style, and 20+ years of professional experience working with major studios across the country.
Allowing unedited images to be altered undermines our creative process and misrepresents our work.
Do Photographers Ever Provide RAW Files?
Yes—but only in very specific commercial contracts.
Photographers shooting for brands, studios, or agencies sometimes provide RAW images, but this comes at a much higher cost—often in the tens of thousands of dollars.
Why? Because in these cases, the client isn’t just hiring a photographer for a session—they are buying full ownership of the images, including copyright.
These contracts require waiving intellectual property rights, and the images are typically used in large-scale advertising campaigns.
When you book a newborn or family session, it’s a completely different experience. You’re not licensing raw content—you’re commissioning an artist to create a beautifully finished product.
Our Work Is Meant to Be Printed, Not Just Viewed on a Screen
We don’t just take images for digital viewing—we shoot with the final, printed product in mind.
✔ Designed for albums & wall art—Our images are meant to be held, displayed, and cherished.
✔ Shot with print quality in mind—The colours, tones, and compositions are created to look stunning in physical form.
✔ A complete experience, not just a file—The goal isn’t just to have photos stored away, but to create something tangible that lasts.
RAW files aren’t meant for that—they’re a step in the process, not the finished product.
Final Thoughts: Trust the Process
We understand that clients want the best quality images from their session. That’s exactly why we don’t provide RAW files—because they aren’t the best quality yet.
Just like a chef wouldn’t serve raw ingredients or a musician wouldn’t release unmastered vocals, we don’t hand over unfinished work—we deliver beautifully crafted, professionally finished images.
